In a surprise development, Pakistan's Central Censor Board has decided not to release 'Raees' in the country. After the release of 'Kaabil' on February 3rd, there were high expectations of 'Raees' to follow suit and was expected to release this coming Sunday on February 10. However, Pakistan's Central Censor Board has now refused to give 'Raees' the green light to release in the country saying that the film undermines Islam and portrayed Muslims as criminals and terrorists
This new development is a blow to Indian and Pakistan cinema relation which is slowly limping back to normalcy. After escalating tensions between India and Pakistan due to attack on Indian Army base in Uri and surgical strikes along the Line of Control resulted in Indian Motion Pictures Producers Association banning all Pakistani artists from working in a film in India and Pakistan following suit by banning all Indian films from releasing in Pakistan since October of last year.
However, things showed sign of normalcy after Pakistan government withdrew the ban of Indian films in local theatres subject to clearance from the Central Censor Board on February 1.
Unfortunately, 'Raees' can't follow suit of 'Kaabil' in Pakistan now.
Despite this setback, 'Raees' is running successfully at the Worldwide Box Office. Check out the Domestic Box Office collection numbers of 'Raees' HERE.
